Vanilla Ice Says Sorry

by Carlos Menezes on 2009/03/15

The rise of social media has brought with it a morbid fascination with the cheesy celebrities of yesteryear. Whether it's the Hoff himself posing in a speedo while rescuing Hurrican Katrina victims, Mr. T throwing Snickers Bars at some unsuspecting fool, or the latest amazing Chuck Norris fact, inboxes, forums and blogs are full with celebrities of dubious class.

The latest is a certain Robert Matthew Van Winkle - known as Vanilla Ice to his adoring public. Embarrassingly enough, his single Ice Ice Baby became the first hip hop single to top the Billboard Charts. The song also happened to bear more than just a passing resemblance to Queen's Under Pressure.

Now, perhaps in an attempt to regain some of his former, uhm, glory (or to make a quick buck from Virgin Mobile), Robert has done the unthinkable. He's said sorry.

shameless marketing at its best...

to me this just confirms that Rob Van Winkle is who we always thought he was, somebody who will do almost anything for some cash.

I could be mistaken, but wasn't he at some point taking part in a cheesy boxing reality show that included MC Hammer among its contestants?

About time someone apologised for those pants.
