Ever wondered if you had a film developed about your morning run? Well, this viral is certainly a step closer. The Wilderness Downtown features an interactive film by Chris Milk and it is built entirely in HTML5. Below is a screenshot of the landing page:
The features of the video are prevalent on Google Chrome. The video showcases a runner running through a street at dawn. The beauty of the film is that while the runner is running different tabs open up displaying elements from Google Street View. These elements range from the original Google Maps overlay to actual buildings of your street with a rotational view.
So, the running question, why did this go viral? For starters, it highlights the core functionalities of Google Street View as well puts Google Maps back on the map. It also possesses a fantastic soundtrack in the form of Arcade Fire’s “We used to wait”.
