Google Chrome Fastball

by Ltisch Amos on 2010/08/01

Google Chrome's Fastball video game is completely different to the virals I’ve had a look at lately. It  reminds me of a game I used to play as a child, it must be vintage pinball at my dad’s baseball club- it’s the tiny silver ball. This mixed with scenes from Home Improvement (the sitcom), a little DIY theme going on.

In any case, this brainy viral concept is altogether interactive and challenging. The idea behind the video is to challenge the user to participate in a series of Internet questions. It’s on the clock so it’s with that little bit of added pressure - I know I felt it.   Once you’ve answered a question you follow the Chrome ball’s obstacle course on a race to the finish line. Once you’ve finished, wipe the stress sweat beads off your forehead and you’ll soon realise that it’s designed to symbolise the speed of Google Chrome as you search online.

Google Chrome Fastball.

This is a first-class example from Google Chrome of how a video game is able to connect with users by allowing them to interact with the plot (even though it’s a computer-generated). It creates a feeling of competitiveness in users, and this then generates a feeling of excitement while, at the same time, brightly promoting the brand. Click here to play the game now.
