The Secret Behind Nike Air

by Naazneen Parkar on 2010/04/17

Nike took the April Fools tradition to the next level this year by releasing a viral video – The Secret Behind Nike Air. The sentiments around this video have been pretty mixed. However, it has been popular as it received approximately 300,000 views on YouTube in one week. Once again Nike has used some well-known sports icons to promote their brand. But there are issues regarding whether these were the ideal faces to place in the video. Is it possible that a name such as Usain Bolt may have increased the viral's popularity?

That aside, this viral does follow on from the usual campaigns with other sporting icons such as Michael Jordan and LeBron James. But Nike doesn’t stop at sporting icons - there are a variety of famous faces in many their adverts. However, what makes this clip even more interesting is the sarcastic twist and comical content, not to mention the clever choice of music, which adds to the mysterious tone they are trying to set.

At the end of the day, this viral aligns with the brand image of cutting-edge technology and design for sport enthusiasts. Some may find it hilarious whereas others may find it entertaining. What do you think?
